Scuola di Sofia is very proud to present our Italian Saturday & Sunday Schools, unique in their genre,  welcoming children in a school setting for the whole morning/afternoon sessions.

Italian Saturday School is based at St John Fisher RC Primary school (Raynes Park, SW20 9NA).

Italian Sunday School is based at George Green School in the Isle of Dogs, E14 3DW

We are very lucky to benefit from newly equipped multimedia classrooms, as well as a huge playground with picnic areas for children to spend playtime outdoors.

Spending time together, talking in Italian with their peers, making new friends and attending outstanding classes from our fantastic staff, all help children to improve their Italian language and communication skills fast, while having fun.

Italian Saturday School (ISS) is divided into 3 great sections:

ISS Bilinguals, ISS Beginners and ISS Preschool.

ISS Bilinguals is a selective section dedicated to children who can understand and speak Italian, even if not much or correctly. Pupils are offered an intensive 3.5 hours session each Saturday term time - 37 weeks a year, from the beginning of September to mid July. Children attend from 9.15am to 12.45pm. This full immersion approach allows them to combine the study of the language and grammar - spelling, reading, listening, conversation and writing  skills -  with a unique and inspiring routine aimed at teaching Italian culture - History,  Geography and Literature. Lessons are in Italian only and Italian is taught as a mother tongue language.

Children are divided into classes according to their age group, from Reception to Year 6. School bags and equipment is provided by the school. At ISS Bilinguals, children will make Italian speaking friends and enjoy a safe, friendly and caring school environment.

ISS Beginners attend from 2 to 4.15pm, on Saturday term time - 37 weeks a year, from the beginning of September to mid July. In this section we welcome children who do not understand and do not speak Italian. Sessions are mostly in Italian, with some English to allow children to follow instructions. They are more focussed on conversation, and less on grammar. Children will also learn the basics phonic rules for being able to read and write in Italian and will be taught vocabulary in a variety of day to day topics.  Italian is taught as a foreign language.

Children are divided into classes according to their age group, from Reception to Year 6. School bags and equipment is provided by the school.

ISS Preschool welcomes children aged 2 and 3, accompanied by a parent/carer. We have two available sessions on Saturday term time: one in the morning 10.45-11.45am and one in the afternoon 3-4pm. All session are followed by optional stay and play time outdoor. Preschool classes are 100% in Italian and highly interactive, with music, dance and movement. Children learn vocabulary on every day topics and basics of literacy and numeracy.

Our newly opened Italian Sunday school (ISS) offers places for Primary School children from Reception age to Year 6. Classes are on Sundays term time from 9.30am to 12pm and they follow the same structure and curriculum of our Italian Saturday School.
