SCUOLA DI SOFIA ISS POLICY

(ITALIAN SATURDAY SCHOOL – PRIMARY – BILINGUALS AND BEGINNERS)

 

  • The school commits in delivering high quality Italian language and culture classes to all pupils.

  • We will open the school gate at 9.15am (2pm for afternoon sessions) for check in and at 12.45pm (4.15pm for afternoon sessions) for children’s check out.

  • Families are to make sure that the children come to school on time (9.10am / 1.55pm at the gate) and bring their book bags complete with all the provided learning material. Parents are not allowed on the school grounds.

  • For security reasons, the gate will be shut straight after the children come in. If you arrive late, you will need to ring/text 07856452920 and someone will come and open the gate. Please understand that late arrivals are disruptive for the others, so we encourage everyone to be on time.

  • If you need to collect your child before check out time, you will need to let us know in advance in a written form and then text the above number to let us know that you are outside waiting for your child to be collected.

  • Scuola di Sofia ISS has no uniform but children are to attend with clothes of a certain decorum (no football t-shirts, wellies, make-up…).

  • Attendance is very important. Families commit to bring their children at Italian school every Saturday term time (37 weeks a year, according to calendar) unless in case of sickness.

  • If a child is sick, families will need to inform the school at their earliest convenience. Missed classes will affect your child’s education. If you have special circumstances, kindly speak to the headteacher.

  • Homework will be uploaded on Google Classroom on a weekly basis. Children must complete the tasks and parents will need to upload the homework on Google Classroom in a photo format via App by the provided deadline. Teachers will then correct the homework and will return it to the pupils with their feedback through Google Classroom.

  • Teachers will upload to Google Classroom the results of spelling tests and assessments, where applicable.

  • Learning material is provided by the school and is included in the tuition fee.

  • Where applicable, families may be asked to purchase Scuola di Sofia Dispensa (Homework Booklets especially formulated for ISS pupils and based on our curriculums).

  • There is a £50 registration fee per child to book for his/her place at school and to cover for the equipment they will need (book bag, fully equipped pencil-case, workbook, folders, etc.). If lost or damaged, additional material will nedd to be purchased separately by the family.

  • Families will need to make sure that the workbook is complete and all material is tidily ordered. If we notice that the book is badly kept and the pages are being wasted (torn or scribbled) we might ask the families to pay a contribution for new books.

  • The school commits in informing the families regarding the children’s progress and we will give them details of missed classwork. Comunications will be given either by email or text messages. The school will organise one parents’ evening a year in the form of a video-call appointment (normally before Easter holiday).

  • The school will provide the families with two written reports of their child’s progress (one before Christmas holidays and one before Summer holidays). If you feel you need to talk about your child’s progress, you will need to book a phone appointment with the headteacher.

  • Families are to act on the teacher’s reports and homework feedback in order to ensure continuous progress.

  • Payments will be taken via Direct Debit at the beginning of each month of the year (12 months), anticipated. The Direct Debit will stay in place as long as the child attends ISS and will renew automatically each academic year.

  • The monthly fee for ISS Bilinguals is £110 for the first child and £95 for each sibling. The monthly fee for ISS Beginners is £65 for the first child and £55 for each sibling.

  • If payments are not received by the deadline, the school reserves the right to exclude a child from any further tutoring until the payments are brought up to date.

  • Two full months’ notice are required if you wish to withdraw your child from school (you must give notice before the last day of each month). For instance, if you give a notice on 2nd March, you’ll still need to pay April and May in full.

  • School will only be able to administer medication to the pupils when these are accompanied by a General Practitioner’s prescription stating their name.

  • If a pupil is sick during class, we will inform the families by phone call (make sure your details and emergency numbers are up to date) and they may need to come and collect the child.

  • If a pupil has an accident at school we will inform you (at the end of the day or immediately by phone if necessary) and you may be asked to sign an “accident report” when you pick your child up.

  • Families need to provide a light snack and water bottle for their children to have during the break. All items must be clearly labelled with the child’s name. We are a NUT FREE school because we have children with severe nuts allergy. Do not give your child snacks containing nuts as they will be immediately disposed of.

  • It is very important that families inform the headteacher if your child has food allergies or other health issues.

  • The School reserves the right to change the terms of policy if new circumstances arise.

 

SCUOLA DI SOFIA ISS POLICY (ITALIAN SATURDAY PRESCHOOL)

  • The school commits in delivering high quality Italian language preschool classes to all pupils.

  • We will open the school gate at 10.45am (3pm for afternoon sessions) for check in and at 12.45pm (4.15pm for afternoon sessions) for children’s check out.

  • Families are to make sure that the children come to school on time (10.40am / 2.55pm at the gate) and bring their preschool books complete with all the provided learning material. One parent/carer must stay at preschool class from the beginning to the end of the session. No drop off of children aged 2-3 year old.

  • For security reasons, the gate will be shut straight after the children come in. If you arrive late, you will need to ring/text 07856452920 and someone will come and open the gate. Please understand that late arrivals are disruptive for the others, so we encourage everyone to be on time.

  • Scuola di Sofia ISS has no uniform but children are to attend with clothes of a certain decorum (no football t-shirts, wellies, make-up…).

  • Preschool children will not receive paper homework but they will receive a password to log in the students’ area on our website and play learning games in Italian.

  • Learning material is provided by the school and is included in the tuition fee.

  • There is a £50 registration fee per child to book for his/her place at school and to cover for the equipment they will need. Additional workbooks can be purchased at £1 each from the school.

  • Families will need to make sure that the workbook is complete and all material is tidily ordered. If we notice that the book is badly kept and the pages are being wasted (torn or scribbled) we might ask the families to pay a contribution for new books.

  • The school commits in informing the families regarding the children’s progress and we will give them details of missed classwork. Comunications will be given either by email or text messages. There are no parents’ evenings planned for preschool children but, if you have any concerns, please talk to the teacher at the end of the session.

  • No school reports will be given out to preschool pupils.

  • Payments will be taken via Direct Debit at the beginning of each month of the year (12 months), anticipated. The Direct Debit will stay in place as long as the child attends ISS and will renew automatically each academic year. When the child turns 4 they will be automatically enrolled in the ISS school, unless you withdraw tem. The Direct debit will be amended accordingly.

  • The monthly fee for ISS Preschool is £45/month (£40 for siblings).

  • If payments are not received by the deadline, the school reserves the right to exclude a child from any further tutoring until the payments are brought up to date.

  • One full month’s notice is required if you wish to withdraw your child from school (you must give notice before the last day of each month). For instance, if you give a notice on 2nd March, you’ll still need to pay April and May in full.

  • At ISS preschool, the accompanying parent or carer remails fully responsible for the health and wellbeing of the child attending class with them.

  • If a pupil has an accident at school, you may be asked to sign an “accident report”.

  • A small snack is included in the ISS Preschool Class. All food given out at school is “nut free”. Parents or carers are allowed to bring their own snacks or baby food, as long as they are “nut free”. Please be promt in informing the preschool teacher if the child has intolerances or allergies.

  • The School reserves the right to change the terms of policy if new circumstances arise.

 

SCUOLA DI SOFIA ONLINE CLASSES POLICY

 

  • The school commits in delivering high quality Italian language classes via Zoom or Google Meet.

  • The days and times, as well as the monthly cost of the lessons, can be found on our website www.scuoladisofia.co.uk in the section “book a class”.

  • Parents/carers are to make sure that the children long into their call 5 mins before the class starts.

  • All children must be supervised by a parent or carer for the duration of the class.

  • Children under the age of 6 may need some help using the keyboard/mouse so we strongly advise that a parent or carer sits next to them during class.

  • If your child is late at class or cannot be present please let us know in advance by writing to info@scuoladisofia.co.uk

  • Parents/carers are to make sure that the children are sitting on a chair in a quiet room, without background noise. This includes people speaking in English in the background, television, videogames, siblings, pets, etc.

  • Default settings are video and audio on. Please make sure that the children have their video on at all times during class. Children are not allowed to have a fake or blurry background as this can affect our ability to see what they are doing.

  • We have the faculty to mute/unmute their audio depending on what we need to do at class. Please help your child understand where to find the mute/unmute button and how to use it. Older children will also need to be able to use the chat button.

  • Eating and drinking is not allowed at class. If a child needs to use the restroom, he/she will need to ask permission to the teacher beforehand.

  • Children need to come to virtual class equipped with all the learning material required. We strongly advise that you purchase an exercise book that your child can use to do Italian class.

  • On Google Classroom we will regularly post learning material and PDF revision papers. Kindly print them out and make sure they are stuck into your child’s Italian exercise book.

  • The children will regularly receive homework, make sure this is done before the following class. This is to ensure that the children retain contents and make the most of their online classes.

  • Sunglasses, face masks and hats are not allowed at class.

  • Attendance is very important. Parents/carers commit to bring their children to virtual class 39 weeks a year, as per calendar, unless in case of sickness.

  • If a child is sick, families will need to inform the school at their earliest convenience. Missed classes will affect your child’s education. If you have special circumstances, kindly speak to the headteacher.

  • Homework will be uploaded on Google Classroom on a weekly basis. Children must complete the tasks and parents will need to upload the homework on Google Classroom in a photo format via App by the provided deadline. Teachers will then correct the homework and will return it to the pupils with their feedback through Google Classroom.

  • Learning material is provided by the school and is included in the tuition fee.

  • Please be aware that the school records the online classes for training and quality purposes. Rest reassured that we will only share the recordings with the families whose children were absent at the time of the live class. This is to allow their children to watch the recording and make up the class. The school will delete recordings after 15 days.

  • If you wish to discuss your child’s progress please book a phone appointment with the head teacher. You can do this by writing an email to info@scuoladisofia.co.uk

  • At the end of the school year the teacher will be albe to advise what is the next suitable class for your child/children.

  • Payments will be taken via Direct Debit at the beginning of each month of the year (12 months), anticipated. The Direct Debit will stay in place as long as the child attends Scuola di Sofia and will renew automatically each academic year.

  • If payments are not received by the deadline, the school reserves the right to exclude a child from any further tutoring until the payments are brought up to date.

  • To withdraw a child from Scuola di Sofia please write to info@scuoladisofia.co.uk and we will provide to suspend the Direct Debit.

  • The School reserves the right to change the terms of policy if new circumstances arise.​
